Animal Symbols in Church Stained Glass Windows

Church stained glass windows sometimes use animal symbols which have literal and symbolic meanings. Here are some of the symbols represented by animals.
Ant: Is a symbol of dedication and hard work. Ants work with each other to get a job done, like Christians work together for a common goal of spreading the Good News.
Birds: Birds are a symbol of the human spirit.
Butterfly: Is a symbol of the resurrection.
Donkey: Is a symbol of prophecy fulfilled.
Sheep: Is a symbol of Christians. Christians are the sheep, Jesus is the Good Shepherd who takes care of us.
When a biblical scene is painted in a stained glass church window careful attention is paid to symbols and their meanings. For more information, please visit our website.

stained glass church windows

Stained glass church windows are more than just windows. They are works of art with a purpose. The main purpose of stained glass is to beautify a structure. In our lives, so much of what we see is easily ignored but it is hard to ignore the spectacle of colored glass with light streaming in and illuminating the inside of a holy place. Church stained glass can also speak to our religious beliefs by painting with light. Controlling light with a stained glass window for your church

Controlling the amount of light that comes into your sanctuary is often an important consideration. You don't want to have to wear sunglasses in church. At the same time, interior decoration is of utmost importance so the congregation can have a pleasant experience. Stained glass church windows address both of these issues in a very pleasing way. Stained glass church windows are usually made from opalescent glass which can be painted or unpainted. This type of stained glass is opaque and diffuses light. Is it stained glass or leaded glass?

The terminology is tricky. Most people refer to any leaded glass as stained glass. A leaded glass window may be composed of pieces of clear or textured glass without color and then it is called simply, "leaded glass." "Stained glass" is leaded glass with color or a combination of colored glass and painted glass. For example, a stained glass window panel with a design and possibly a biblical figure or figures. In our studio, we refer to leaded glass for a residential situation as either art glass or leaded glass and any glass for religious purposes as stained glass. Process of building a stained glass window

The process of building a stained glass window panel today is basically unchanged since The Middle Ages. Step number one is the design. For example, religious stained glass window panels are conceived with the actual opening in mind. Is the opening a rectangle, square, gothic arch, round top or some other configuration? Next, a full-sized drawing called a cartoon is made. After the cartoon is made, glass colors are picked based on the design and the amount of light available to illuminate the stained glass window. Pieces of glass are cut from patterns made and the stained glass window panel is leaded together with lead came and soldered with lead solder. After the stained glass window panel is soldered on both sides, it is waterproofed. There are various methods of accomplishing this task, and we prefer the old-fashioned way, since it is stronger and easier to repair if a piece of glass is broken. After the waterproofing, the religious stained glass window panel is cleaned and is ready for installation. This is a very basic explanation of the process of church stained glass design. However, I will say that the most important part is listening to your customer and providing them with a stained glass window that has all the elements important to their religious experience. Stained glass craftsman

Hello, I wanted to start my first blog by introducing myself. My name is Frank D. Llorens, Jr. I am a third generation stained glass craftsman working for my family's stained glass business called Llorens Leaded Art Glass Inc. just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. This is my first blog ever so I will have to work into this unfamiliar territory. I have a strong passion for creating new stained glass church windows and for preserving antique glass back to its original glory. My family has been making stained glass windows for almost 100 years which is probably why I have such a passion for this industry. I feel strongly connected to my family's past and want to be a large presence in the future of my family's business. Stained glass windows have been around for centuries, and I feel that I can pursue this line of work until I retire. Check back for more posts about stained glass church windows.
